Collection: Uni

Niko Lehtola (b. 1988) alias Uni is a Finnish visual artist and an experienced street artist. He has been painting since 2010. His production consists mostly of murals which he has painted in Finland in the Tampere region, but also in Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Spain, Portugal and Germany. Lehtola paints with spray and acrylic paints on various bases, such as canvas and skateboards. Recently he has let go of any self made barriers related to creating art. This has led him to experiment with unique sculpturelike paintings, inspired by the natural shapes of wood grain, the abstract color splashes of pierced spray cans and the depth and dimensionality of our human experience.

Lehtola's path to becoming a professional artist has passed through Indonesia and South America. He traveled for several years in the 2010s, networking with local artists and interacting and learning from experienced artists. In Bolivia, he stayed with the Kallawaya people, famous for their folk healing skills, and got to know the tribe's shamanistic traditions and motifs. His art has an original cultural absorption capacity: the influences can be seen. The tradition of street art, nature motifs and the symbol systems of world cultures are mixed together.

Slightly different from street art trends, Lehtola's works show a spiritual dimension. The key is not self-presentation, nor political influence, but communicating the invisible inner world into visible, and in the process, grow as a human being. The tradition of visionary art can be seen in Lehtola's work, and it is also influenced by surrealism and psychedelic art.
