Introducing Jonny Fyvie: Nostalgia, Currency, and a Satirical Edge
1DROP Gallery is welcoming UK-based contemporary artist Jonny Fyvie.
Working out of his studio in the Surrey Hills, Fyvie sits at the intersection of pop culture, nostalgia, and modern consumption. He takes the icons of our childhood β classic animation, gaming culture, the characters that raised a generation β and deconstructs them, rebuilding each one with a sharp, satirical edge.
His signature move is working with vintage currency and mixed media, using banknotes and financial ephemera as both material and metaphor. The cartoon on the surface is the hook; the real subject is what's underneath β fame, wealth, and the passage of time. It's work that rewards a second look: familiar enough to pull you in, pointed enough to make you think.
Fyvie's pieces are already in private collections around the world, and he's been commissioned by major global brands and public figures, including Toyota and Mandarin Oriental Hotels β a track record that speaks to how well his work translates from gallery wall to brand collaboration.
For 1DROP, he's a natural fit. The satire, the pop references, the willingness to mess with something sacred (whether that's a cartoon or a currency) β it's the same spirit that runs through the rest of our roster, just filtered through a distinctly British lens.
